Neil Gupta who went to the Middle East searching for antique carpets but instead he was murdered, stabbed to death in Dubai in the souk. His father is out for revenge and hires Russell Quant to find the murderer. Because of the nature of Muslim countries, Quant is forced to go underground. The museum curator, merchants in the souk, carpet experts and gay society in the Middle East are part of an underground activity and Quant finds that the more he plods on, the more he risks his own life but in the process he leans about life and love and living for the moment. He is forced to make a decision that will affect him for the rest of his life.
One of the issues that he must face is whether or not Gupta was murdered by gay bashers in Dubai or was it something else? Perhaps he was murdered because of the carpet he was looking for and this is what Quant thinks.
If you are familiar with other Russell Quant mysteries you know that he loves adventure and danger. This time he goes to a mysterious area where he will find the kinds of things he likes but with danger added in. As in other Quant mysteries, his neighbor from home, Sereena Orion Smith comes aboard to see if she can help. It is interesting to see that Quant does not know very much about himself and in the same frame of mind, he keeps us guessing to the very end when the case is solved.
In this book we see that Quant is involved with another man and then he is summoned to handle this case. He has to leave his lover and is not free to give an explanation why or about the danger involved. This book is full of twists, turns and surprises and a big surprise ending.
I have found that once you read a book in the Russell Quant series it is not easy to wait for the next one. In each book you get to know Quant a little better but there is always something more that you want to know. And so, you look for the patience to hold on until Bidulka writes the next one.


Can I smoke sheesha in a bowl? (not a hookah pipe)?
Can sheesha be smoked in Sheesha a pipe, like a pipe that's used for smokin pot instead of smoking it in a hookah? Don't preach to me about not smoking, I'm asking out of curiosity.

    I truly do not know how I will fill the next year or so of my life, waiting for book eight in the Russell Quant, Prairie PI, series. It bodes ill that I am already casting feverishly about for possible plot lines that mend the hideous damage done to my beloved Russell in this book. I’m the sort of a boy whose brain needs chew-toys, as my younger brother said once, or it turns on the furniture and tears the place up.

    I really loved Aloha, Candy Hearts, and felt that the decidedly substandard Sundowner Ubuntu was partially made up for with the new installment’s spiffy pace and beautiful ending. I approached the newest book with a high heart and buoyant hopes.

    And then Bidulka goes and exceeds them. Bar none, this is the best book in the series. The mystery is far and away the most accomplished and polished, pulling a suspect switcheroo successfully twice and marginally once. The ending, in fact the last three chapters, are so exciting I was pacing the floor as I read them. (The dog was most confused, poor little love, pacing along with me, looking worried at my exclamations of surprise and excitement.)

    The story picks up with Russell happily ensconced in a relationship, seemingly one that’s riding on rails it’s going so smoothly and directly. He’s happy, really truly happy, and the cherry on the sundae of his life lands with a plop in the form of a challenging, extremely remunerative job: Investigate the gay-bashing death of a world-renowned ancient carpet expert in glitzy, ritzy Dubai, all at the expense of a megarich Indian engineer and his wife. It’s the engineer’s son who’s dead. Now…what to tell Mr. Man? “Honey, I’m going away for a few weeks, my life’s going to be in danger, kiss kiss!”

    Clouds gather, shadows lengthen, and once in Dubai, Russell enters the hyper-closeted world of gay Arabia, and the hyper-competitive world of ancient carpet buying and selling. What happens there leads Russell from a hot Arabian sandstorm back to frigid, January-blasted Saskatoon, a chase scene featuring Mr. Man’s property’s frozen pond, bullets, a dead body, and a Big Reveal that is really a Big Reveal!

    I love being surprised, especially when I’ve come to the conclusion that a series is fun but no great shakes, worth reading because it’s just entertaining. And now I’m awake and alert again, eager for the next book, agog to see what the author will do to fix a certain giant chasm he’s ripped in Russell’s life.

    2011 can’t come fast enough. I need my fix!!

In addition, the featured stock photo is misleading since it shows much larger packages. See the product’s image gallery for my scaled photo of 150 grams of Soex. As a whole, I’m glad that “Deals in Motion” turned me onto a new shisha experience. Regardless of personal preferences, I believe that the availability of a non-tobacco based shisha is long overdue. While it’s not for everybody, Soex is worth a try.

    Ugarsay anecay agassebay, yes it’s strange that it’s in pig latin but sugar cane bagasse is just the fibrous pulp left over after all the sugar cane juices are extracted from the sugar cane. In other words your smoking sugar cane pulp instead of tobacco with your flavored molasses. Is it harmful? Yes, but so is inhaling smoke from wood chips or any other source. The real question is, is it healthier than tobacco? Probably, since it doesn’t contain it’s own tar, nicotine or other chemicals typically found in tobacco. However since charcoal itself contains tar, and smoke regardless of source has harmful qualities, smoking this stuff everyday still elevates chances of throat, lung and mouth cancer as well as other respiratory diseases.

    Reviewer Betsy Yeary mentioned that exposure to sugar cane bagasse in processing plants has connections to the development of Pulmonary fibrosis. I think that’s probably referring to the fact that people inhaling any type of irritant daily either at work or in their environment, like microscopic fibers, silica dust or asbestos, develop interstitial lung diseases. Anyone who’s heard of miner’s lung knows what this is, however this probably applies to us as much as the idea that our burning coal will contribute to us someday getting miner’s lung.

    It’s a lighter smoke than tobacco, but it’s pretty flavorful. It’s not great but it does what it sets out to do, mainly being an alternative for tobacco shisha and since its the only company other than Black Label to sell herbal shishas there isn’t much choice for non-tobacco smokers.

    this stuff isn’t anywhere close to what they make it sound
    if you read the other reviews then you’ve noticed the whole pig latin deal which means they were trying to hide something
    not to mention, this stuff just isn’t anything like regular shisha
    tobacco shisha is much more flavorful and smooth and thick, i was disappointed when i tried this stuff : /

    So has anyone noticed the ingredients on the Soex herbal shishaw packages? The ingredients say: “Ugarsay anecay agassebay + Molasses + Flavour”.

    …The first three words are in pig latin. Sugar Cane Bagasse. My boyfriend started purchasing this stuff because it claims to be Nicotine and Tar free, but then I looked at the ingredients and realized they were in pig latin. I was a little freaked out. Why did they do this, and how are they allowed to?

    I researched the plant and come to find out, people who are exposed to Sugar Cane Bagasse in processing plants are greatly susceptible to developing a chronic lung condition called Pulmonary Fibrosis. It makes me think that this stuff isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be after all.
