Mulcher Herb Interesting Roadmap

I ordered this blower off of Sears Website! WAS A NIGHTMARE. This may be a very good blower but I will never know, I just don’t want people ordering off of Sears website! I ordered the blower from their site and ended up paying over a $100 for father’s day for an item NEVER received because they sent it to the WRONG address. I tried 3 times to change the defaults only to receive a confirmation e-mail stating that it was STILL going to my son’s old address, because of an item I sent him last year for his birthday. I phoned within 45 minutes to try and correct the error and they COULD NOT do it!!! Then they proceeded 3 times to lie to me about canceling the order over the next 3 days. Needless to say UPS delivered it to some random occupants who scored a blower I never saw and Sears would only apologize but NEVER refund or fix the problem. POOR POOR SERVICE AND WEBSITE

This product took probably 20 minutes to assemble. I would rate the product just “okay.” It is underpowered and makes LOTS of dust. Dry leaves had to be shredded twice: once on “coarse” and the second time on “fine.” It is a space saver and reduces lots of bags of leaves to a few…that’s a great plus. Also, the finely shredded leaves make a great mulch.

Very satisfied customer. The Flowtron Leaf Shredder works very easily & efficiently and a pleasure to use. We mulched all our yard leaves (we have quite a bit) and mixed in with our vegetable garden soil. From purchase to shipment to receiving was very fast we would use amazon again for future purchases first.

Overall, this machine seems to work well. I have a modest yard in a suburban setting with two large trees: a Honey Locust with small leaves on fronds and a Sugar Maple tree with larger leaves. There are also a few leafs from the neighbors and from our Lilac bushes. The reason I purchased the Leaf-Eater was to reduce these leaves for composting. Prior to this the leaf piles overwhelmed our compost pile and I had to use other spaces. Using the Leaf-eater, the volume of the leaves was reduced significantly by first running on the coarse setting and then the fine setting as others have indicated (though maybe not as much as advertised) – a rough estimate of about 80% for the oak leaves and other larger leaves and 60% for the Honey Locust. As people have noted, it is very noisy and there is a lot of dust, so hearing, eye, and breathing protection are a must – I also had to wash all my clothes after using it. I was able to work at a comfortable pace and mostly avoid bogging it down. The machine bogged a bit as the cutting strings became reduced in length and I had to bounce the unit a little until I changed the strings (which was quick). I set up the machine with the brackets to mount on a garbage can and cleaned the air filter after each wheel-barrow load as others have indicated. So far, I have only put about 8 or so loads through it due to time and weather issues – but so-far, so-good. TWIGS and STICKS – The twigs were processed, but the little bit bigger branches that got past me ended up being thrown to the outer circumference where I removed them when I shut it down – and they did shorten the life of the strings, but otherwise not a big deal. ASSEMBLY – very straight forward and I did it without an assistant – though I am very mechanical. DESIGN SUGGESTION – would be nice if the filter was higher and extended further so it would clear the garbage can. I would recommend this where a commercial machine is not needed.

The leaf shredder has done a great job of grinding leaves fine enough to break down well in my compost pile; much finer than my mulcher mower could ever do. We used in on my neighbors leaves and reduced the number of lawn waste bags drastically.

Purchased the Leaf Mulcher in 2004. Having a small yard, I estimate I ran the machine a maximum of 25 hours. This past winter, it began making an awful racket and refused to run anymore. Upon examination, I found the motor shaft turns in a sleeve bearing. How CHEAP AND JUNKY!!!!!! The sleeve bearing nearest the spinner head had worn considerably, allowing such a wobble as to destroy the motor. I did like shredding the leaves, as they make good mulch for the garden. However, it was a real pain to use. Even the smallest oak twigs could break the line. The funnel never fit together very well. The stand was flimsy and the knobs would not stay tightened. With some improvements, such as high quality motor bearings and the ability to use larger cutting line,Flowtron would have a great product. Unfortunately, after years of people complaining, the company has not seen fit to engineer any improvements into the product.

It does what it is advertised to do, but I am on my 3rd one in 3-4 years because the motor will soon wear out if you use it year-round as I do. I’d be happy to see a more durable version.

  7. Cohen says:

This is a worthless lawn tool. No matter how light of job you have (perfectly dried leaves dropped in one at a time)it can’t handle it. I sold mine at a garage sell for $5 and felt guilty for sticky someone with a worthless product. DON”T BUY!

The Flowtron LE-900 is working great. It is almost a carbon copy of one from Sears that my wife and I wore out last year after several years of faithful service.

The only difference I noted in the two was that I had to assemble the “funnel” on the LE-900.

We hope this one gives the same long service as did the Sears version.

Bought one of these at Home Depot and within 25 minutes of use was shocked three times. Sent it back and bought one from Lowes shocked me within 5 minutes. Every time it was when I was near something metal, like a fence or shed (none had electric to them). Tried a different heavier cord and stayed away from metal, but still in the middle of my rock landscaping, no metal around, it shocked me again. Have Emailed the Manufacturer twice and no response after two weeks. A call to their help line got me a college student who said maybe I should wear leather gloves. I have had many electric tools and none of them has ever shocked me. I find the suggestion to wear leather gloves no help at all and the lack of reply from the manufacturer is more reason to stay away from this product. Second one is going back…..

This is an awesome machine ! ! I previously have owned a Craftsman and a Toro blower/mulcher. I knew it was a pain to switch the attachments to mulch versus blow. But now that I have the flip of a switch operation, I would not want to go back.

Previous reviews mentioned a negative of the plastic impeller. I trimmed 24 landscaping bushes (spirea, euyonomus, holly, barberrrys and such) and mulched the trimmings. I had to stop one time as a pretty big piece of cypress mulch got lodged in the impeller. I have never owned any gas operated models before but I think it handled it all well.

    I love mine ! !

  11. Giles says:

I was completely happy with the ordering, shipping and handling of the Vac. It seems to be of good design except for it having a plastic impeller instead of metal like my old Black & Decker had. As for using it as a vac I’ll have to wait until leaf pick up time. As a blower it worked well but could be a little more powerful. I will update this as I use it. Price wise it was not as competitive as I feel it could have been compared to the Black & Decker.

  12. Ives says:

I like the WORX TRIVAC very much. It definetly blows the debris away from the yard, and it also picks up and mulches like it said on the box.

I just received this product yesterday and assembled it this morning. I just finished using it for a couple of hours to chip small branches on our vacant lot next door to the house. It does a great job on small stuff, up to about an inch, maybe a bit more.

The included instructions are not very thorough and cost me an extra hour or so of assembly time. Disregard them and read the instructions given in the December 15, 2006 review by u12soccercoach. They cover everything the manufacturer’s instructions left out.
